Red Dead Redemption 2 fishermen have long hunted for the rarest of all fish in the game. The Channel Catfish is both a Legendary fish and a legend itself. Whereas there are 13 Legendary Fish to be caught in Red Dead Redemption 2, the Channel Catfish has never been found. And while that remains true, despite many a Red Dead Redemption 2 player's efforts, a new datamine reveals that the Channel Catfish does exist. It's not pretty, but there's more to the Channel Catfish than just a myth.

The catfish's model was found in the files of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, and actually has two models instead of one. One is larger, while another is mysteriously smaller. The large model certainly fits the legend of the Channel Catfish, which is supposed to be 180 lbs. It's large and pink, which may not fit the description in-game, but is nevertheless quite intimidating. However, the fish very much is not a finished model, as its neck is malformed and much of its textures are unfinished.

Despite the datamine of the Channel Catfish's model, there remains no evidence to show that the fish is actually in-game or attainable in the slightest. Red Dead Redemption 2 players have gone to great lengths to try and catch the fish. Dataminers have combed Red Dead Redemption 2's files across PC and console for a hint at the truth. Nothing has been found. There's always a chance something could have been missed or that Rockstar will eventually update the game, but until that happens the Channel Catfish remains a legend, existing only outside of the game.

For those wanting to know as much about the Channel Catish as possible, hunt down Jeremy Gill in Red Dead Redemption 2's story mode. Gill will task the player with catching a menagerie of Legendary quality fish. Once the player has captured all 12, Gill will tell them of a 180 lb catfish and will start a quest to go catch it. Gill will then ask the player to position themselves to take a picture as Gill catches this monster fish. When he eventually hooks it, however, the fish pulls Gill in and neither are ever seen again.

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is leading to a variety of discoveries, due to easy access to the game's files and small changes that have been made between versions of the game. For example, the mystery of Princess Isabeau Kathabrina Zinsmeister of Luxembourg is another unfound character in Red Dead Redemption 2. But her model has been discovered in Red Dead Redemption 2's files on PC. Just like with the catfish, however, what to do with that Princess IKZ information is unknown. It wouldn't be a Rockstar game if its greatest mysteries weren't potentially just broken or unfinished content.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version launching on November 19.
