At X019, Microsoft surprised fans by confirming that Project xCloud would support PS4 controllers. The announcement was one of several reveals that shocked Xbox and PlayStation fans, such as the confirmation that the Yakuza games would be coming to Xbox One.


The X019 event in London was full of big announcements about Project xCloud, Microsoft's game streaming service. One of these was that next year, Microsoft will be adding support for the DualShock 4 controller. By adding support for the DualShock 4, which is the official PS4 controller, it means that PS4 players will be able to easily enjoy the service without having to buy another USB controller or an Xbox controller such as the Xbox Elite Wireless controller. Project xCloud will also support other Bluetooth controllers and Razer's game pads.

Microsoft will also be growing the number of regions that Project xCloud is available in. The Project xCloud preview, which has allowed gamers to use the service before its real launch, will become available in Canada, India, Japan, and Western Europe. Sales of the Xbox One have been poor in Japan and mobile gaming is also hugely popular in India so launching Project xCloud in these areas will help Microsoft make money from regions that don't typically spend much money on Xbox products.


Project xCloud will also be available on Windows 10 PCs next year. Microsoft didn't provide fans with a date for this, but after the company released the Xbox Game Pass for PC service, PC gamers will be glad that they will soon have another way to access console games on their devices.


What Microsoft is doing with Project xCloud is part of a larger plan for the company to make money using services and subscriptions and not just through sales of its games and Xbox hardware. This is also why many of the new games that Microsoft made part of X019 are multiplayer titles that can be played for huge amounts of time. There are games like Bleeding Edge, inXile Entertainment's RPG Wasteland 3 and Grounded, a new survival game from Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of The Outer Worlds. These games may be fun, but they also keep people playing for a long time and keep them subscribed to services such as Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, and Project xCloud so these gamers will spend money with Microsoft when they aren't buying hardware.
