At Blizzcon, Blizzard announced that plenty of new releases are coming in the next year. Fans have Diablo 4 to look forward to finally but Blizzard also announced another addition to a fan-favorite: Overwatch 2. While there are still details to come, Blizzard announced a few of the upgrades, maps, and other features that players can look forward to, but the most important thing mentioned is which systems that Overwatch 2 will be available for.

Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter that was released in 2016. Many players fell in love with the interesting characters, skins, and maps, keeping the love of Overwatch alive for the last three years. So no one was surprised when Blizzard announced a sequel at its yearly convention.

When news of the sequel first leaked, players were curious which systems Overwatch 2 would be available for, and it was announced shortly afterwards that Overwatch 2 and its new hero would be on Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and PC. While those are the expected systems, there does seem to be some questions.

Although Blizzard has yet to announce a released date, that hasn't stopped anyone from guessing the release date of Overwatch 2. Most estimates put Overwatch 2 launching between October 2020 and December 2020, which is startling close to the releases of the PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox. It's odd, then, that there are no Overwatch 2 announcements for the next generation of consoles.

Overwatch 2's Release Platforms Revealed

It's fantastic that the next step of Overwatch will be available to just about everyone, no matter which console they have. Overwatch 1 originally was not available for the Switch, but was released for the console in October. Some fans may have been worried that Overwatch 2 was going to follow in those footsteps and not immediately be available on the Nintendo system.

On the other hand, it is a little strange that neither Overwatch 2 nor Diablo 4 seems to mention the next generation of consoles at all. Hopefully, Blizzard will announce that they will also be working to bring Overwatch 2 and its other properties to the PS5 and the Microsoft's Project Scarlett.
