Bandai Namco just revealed the latest character to make their way into Soulcalibur 6. Hildegard von Krone, Hilde for short, was the second character revealed to be a part of the game's second season of DLC. Hilde appeared in a short trailer that showed off some of her moveset and unique abilities, but she currently does not have a release date


Hilde is a fan-favorite character of the Soulcalibur series. Her first appearance was in Soulcalibur 4, and she's appeared in every subsequent game since. She's the daughter of the king of Wolfkrone and currently runs the kingdom in his place, as he was driven mad by dark forces. The last time fans saw Hilde, she was preparing for war, hoping that one day her children would see a brighter tomorrow, even if she and her soldiers didn't.



Now, Hilde returns to the game sporting her same signature weapons in Glanzende Nova and Frischer Himmel: a short sword and a flag-resembling spear. The new Soulcalibur character trailer shows Hilde using these weapons to execute a versatile fighting style known as GroB Erbshaft.


The style allows her to be effective at both long-range and close quarters. Her spear lets her play keep-away with her opponents, and her short sword enables her to deliver a string of blows whenever she's up close and personal. She also seems adept at grappling and counters. She can use her spear to both block attacks and deliver side-switching reprisals, and she can slip between her opponents' guards with grabs that skewer her foes (she can be very violent for such a sweet-seeming and honor-bound character).




In Soulcalibur 4, Hilde was so good a character that she ended up getting banned from tournaments. Her ability to ring opponents out was arguably the best in the game. As a result, she was significantly toned down in Soulcalibur 5, usually always hovering just above the bottom of tier lists. Here's hoping that in this game, Bandai Namco can find a balance with her, enough of one where players can catch her in the next EVO finals.


After Soulcalibur's Cassandra, Hilde is the next original character to make her way back to Soulcalibur. After Haohmaru of Samurai Showdown, she's the second character announced for the season two pass. Neither Hilde nor Haohmaru has a release date at this time, though, so fans can merely speculate on their arrival.
