Despite not seeing a mainline entry since 2013, the Saints Row franchise has survived due to the constant support of its enduring fanbase. While the franchise started as a fairly typical open-world crime game, it grew increasingly wackier through each sequel, eventually culminating in the game’s nameless protagonist becoming the president of the United States and killing aliens atop a singing velociraptor. Fans have been clambering for a new Saints Row for a while now, and as it turns out, we now know when we’ll learn more about the long-awaited fifth game.

Speaking to Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz, GamesIndustry.biz asked the industry veteran about the upcoming fifth game that was teased back in August. He responded, “Saints Row is very close to our hearts, and we'll talk about it next year. For the time being, we just wanted to get the word out that it's coming and it's going to be great.”

This is naturally great news for fans looking to hear more about a potential sequel, and if the words of Kundratitz are anything to go by, Koch Media and Volition are looking to create the best game in the series yet. When asked if the failure of Agents Of Mayhem scared the publisher, the CEO stated, “Saints Row is Saints Row,” before following up by saying, “With Volition, we have the creators of all the Saints Row games as an internal studio and they're not going to be distracted by anything.” It seems as though the traditional Saints Row experience is making a comeback, especially with the team behind the franchise returning to ensure this follow up is a success.

This was something of a pressing concern for fans, who were worried THQ Nordic’s acquisition of Koch Media and its subsidiaries would affect the release of a new Saints Row game. Since the two publishers started working together, however, Koch Media has thrived, announcing several new projects that players have been dreaming of for years. These include a new TimeSplitters game, a revival of the long-dormant Dead Island 2, and, of course, Saints Row 5.

THQ Nordic has also been thriving since acquiring Koch Media, quickly becoming a fan favorite publisher as it purchased a number of long-dormant franchises. It has since announced remakes of Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom and Destroy All Humans, as well as sequels such as Darksiders Genesis. It also purchased the rights to the Kingdom Of Amalur series, getting fans excited at the prospect of the cult-hit returning.

Saints Row 5 is currently in development for unknown platforms.
