Mortal Kombat 11 has already seen a number of DLC fighters added to its roster. Shang Tsung, Night Wolf, and The Terminator already making their way to the game and The Joker, Sindel, and Spawn coming at a later date. However, the lineup of new combatants making their way to Mortal Kombat 11 could have seemingly been very different if the title's director had his say.

Speaking to Brazilian publication Meu PS4, Ed Boon cited three guest characters he originally wanted to add to Mortal Kombat 11's roster. Boon’s first pick was somewhat vague, but he cited Street Fighter as a franchise he was very keen to see appear in the game. Of course, this would be a dream crossover for many, with Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter often being seen as two mainstays of the fighting game genre. Seeing an iconic character from Street Fighter clash with the likes of Scorpion or Sub-Zero would make for some serious wish fulfillment for life-long fans of both franchises.

The second character mentioned by Ed Boon is a far more surprising one, with the director citing the Gun Fu Boogey Man himself, John Wick, as a potential roster member. This would make a lot of sense seen as Wick has just made his video game debut in John Wick: Hex, a turn-based action strategy game by Mike Bithell. There’s no doubt he’d make a competent member of the roster, with his series of hard-hitting hand to hand combat moves and a cold one-liners.

It seems Boon’s obsession with trying to add Keanu Reeve’s to Mortal Kombat 11 didn’t end with Wick though, as his next pick was one of the actor’s most iconic early roles, Neo. The protagonist of the Matrix would’ve made for a vastly different addition to the game, although, one that would have definitely come with some potentially brilliant moves. NetherRealm could’ve had a ball with his signature time-bending kung-fu fighting style and ability to freeze bullets (or other projectiles) and hurtle them back at his opponents. The character even nearly made an appearance in Injustice 2however, the deal supposedly fell through.

While it’s sad these three guest cameos didn’t make the cut, the new DLC roster members have made a mark with Mortal Kombat fans, especially the newest guest character, The Terminator. From his brutal fatalities to his ability to shed his skin and adopt his endoskeleton form, the classic sci-fi horror villain has provided the franchise with yet another stellar guest cameo to stand alongside the previous game's additions of Alien, Predator, and Jason.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development.
