Mortal Kombat 11 director Ed Boon likes to tease fans on Twitter, especially when it comes to new character announcements. The latest character that Boon has trolled Mortal Kombat 11 fans with is none other than Pennywise the Dancing Clown, the evil cosmic entity from Stephen King's It.

Pennywise has become an even more popular pop culture character thanks to the success of the two recent It film adaptations, and so it coming to Mortal Kombat 11 would no doubt generate some buzz. Unfortunately, fans shouldn't hold their breath that Pennywise making its way to the blockbuster fighting game, as Boon's tweet about the character is accompanied by the hashtag "Pennywise Not Confirmed Just Having Fun."

The image Boon shared is rather amusing, showing Pennywise talking to Joaquin Phoenix's Joker at the bottom of the iconic steps from the Joker movie. Boon adds the text, "Just walk down this road, take a right at Mortal Kombat and ask for an application. I'm sure they'll take you."

This isn't the first time that Boon has referenced Pennywise in regards to Mortal Kombat. This past summer, Boon responded to fan asking about possible Mortal Kombat 11 Pennywise DLC, sharing the song "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder. This seems to be an indication that Boon would be open to see Pennywise in a Mortal Kombat game, but for whatever reason, nothing on that front has ever materialized.

While fans won't get a chance to play as Pennywise in Mortal Kombat 11, they will have at least one murderous clown to play as soon enough. The Mortal Kombat 11 Joker DLC release date is January 28, so fans of the fighting game franchise will soon get the chance to play as the Clown Prince of Crime himself. There has been some backlash in regards to the way Joker looks in the game, but maybe if fans are lucky there will be some alternate costumes to choose from, like one based on Joaquin Phoenix's interpretation of the character.

Details on what all the Mortal Kombat 11 Joker DLC will entail will likely come at a later date. The next character joining the Mortal Kombat 11 roster is Sindel on November 26, so it may be another month or so before fans learn more about the Joker DLC.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
