Borderlands 3 is currently entertaining players with its incredible weapon selection and witty gameplay. However, behind the scenes Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has faced a significant court case with the companies former lawyer. Gearbox has not been affected, pushing out Borderlands 3 as planned, but any serious allegations against a company's CEO have serious repercussions if they are sustained.

In December of last year, former Gearbox Vice President of legal affairs Wade Callender submitted a scathing 27-page document that described Randy Pitchford as 'morally bankrupt' and claimed that he had used company money to give himself 12 million dollars, as well as possessing indecent images of minors. Equally, Gearbox had attempted to sue Callender for using company recklessly and not fulfilling the responsibilities of his job.

Both sides have now agreed to drop their respective cases and put a halt to the legal proceedings. A statement from both explains that the "misunderstandings between the parties have been corrected, and apologies were exchanged." This was followed by a clarification that there would be no further statements because of a confidentiality agreement. Even with this ongoing case, Borderlands 3 has been a huge success although sales aren't quite as good as 2K said they were. The company will be glad to see the back of the ordeal and want to return to focusing on their games.

Wade Callender has now become general counsel for the National Rifle Association while Pitchford continues his duties as Gearbox's CEO. This isn't the first time Pitchford has had issues with former employees. In fact, the Gearbox CEO described Claptrap's former voice actor 'bitter' in the wake of a disagreement. This dispute was also about money, this time with Claptrap voice-actor David Eddings claimed that he had been woefully underpaid for the iconic character.

In the last two years, Eddings has claimed he was assaulted by Pitchford and the Gearbox CEO has been accused of stealing money among other things. It has been a rocky road for Gearbox, particularly the company's CEO. Many will want to return to their favourite looter-shooter and forget the turbulence that goes on behind the scenes. Gearbox will certainly be trying to avoid further allegations before it starts damaging sales.

Borderlands 3 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
