Although it is still a couple of months from release, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot continues to build hype. Not only did it reveal a trailer detailing exploration and showed more of key battles like Goku vs. Frieza, but it also recently revealed screenshots for Super Saiyan 3 Goku and Super Vegito. Now, fans curious about the game's RPG approach have a few, small details about how leveling up works.


While exact details have yet to be released, there will be some type of level up system in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Whether is 1 overall level or levels based on certain characters remain to be seen, but these do affect gameplay in some capacity. It also seems as if moves will have different levels, something that is not altogether too surprising with the way combat has worked in past games. To exemplify this, Japanese translator Ken Xyro shared a couple of side-by-sides.




First, Xyro shows 2 levels of a Kamehameha wave, with one noticeably larger than the other. As far as leveling up moves goes, players will do this via training, in which doing so will also unlock new moves in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Secondly, there's a comparison of Goku at level 5 speed and Vegeta at level 40 speed. The difference is quite striking, likely meaning that combat will become more and more high speed as players progress throughout the game.





It's curious to see how this will work exactly. After all, considering that Vegito will not likely be playable until near the end of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, will players have to train and unlock a ton of his moves? or does this character operate off the level of Goku and Vegeta? The same goes for Adult Gohan: is he truly a different character from Teen Gohan, or will training Teen Gohan affect Adult Gohan? Either way, it's a nice RPG addition to the game.


In the meantime, players can be preparing for the game by taking a break from Super to revisit Z, playing older games like Xenoverse, or checking out the myriad of trailers - like the most recent Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Game Introduction trailer - until it releases in January.


Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on January 17, 2020.
