A representative from Infinity Ward has clarified the company's stance on loot boxes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This comes after a leak revealed that there may be a Supply Drop system in Modern Warfare that were reported as weapon loot boxes for the upcoming title.

Many modern Call of Duty titles have had microtransactions and loot boxes, but most of the time, these were only for cosmetic items. The recent leak for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare implied that these new loot boxes would include new weapons, which would incentivize more players to purchase the loot boxes and possibly ruin the game balance. Thankfully, it appears that leak is untrue.

After a number of leaks for the upcoming title, including how Modern Warfare's multiplayer perks are going to work, a representative from Activision took to Reddit to help clear the air. In a new thread called "Current Events," the art director from Infinity Ward explains:

"There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY."

He goes on to say that more information will be released later in the week.

While the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare art director didn't go on to confirm or deny any of the other leaks, this does put the other leaks provided by VG Sources into question. However, the leaks were provided via a datamine Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so it's possible that Infinity Ward and Activision originally planned on including loot boxes, but ultimately scrapped the idea. Whatever the case was, loot boxes don't appear as though they'll be in the final game.

Modern Warfare has gotten a lot of publicity recently, and not all of it is good. A YouTuber recently reported that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta netcode was really bad, although this could change with the final release. The title also lost a lot of pre-orders when it was announced that the Modern Warfare Survival Mode would be PS4 exclusive for a year.

There is some good publicity though, as some of the leaks revealed fan-favorite maps and exciting new perks that may be coming to the new Call of Duty title. Players will find out more about Modern Warfare later this week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases September 12 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
