Infinity Ward has responded to some fan requests made regarding the newest game mode, Gunfight, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. One of the most asked for changes by fans concerning Gunfight is its usage of random load-outs. The MP Designer of Modern Warfare has assured fans that the Infinity Ward team is working hard on some updates for the system.

Gunfight is a new game mode in Modern Warfare that pits two teams of two players against each other in a small, mostly mirrored arena. What makes Gunfight different from other modes is that players cannot regenerate health, and they must play the match with a predetermined assortment of guns with random customizations applied to them.

The "random customizations" of the guns is one of the greatest charms of Gunfight, but since the "random" guns used in the game mode are on a predetermined list and can thus find their way into players' hands repeatedly, they start to lose their spontaneous charm.

Jimladd116 brought this fact up in a post on Reddit. He described how he enjoyed Gunfight, but after only a few days, he started to get used to the weapons because they were on a predetermined rotation. The more he played the game mode, the less random the guns felt, taking away from the spontaneity of the game. dmickner of Infinity Ward told Jimladd116 that Gunfight would have a greater selection of load-outs in the future. When asked by another player why Infinity Ward didn't make everything about Gunfight random (load-outs, rotations, and all), dmickner replied that the team was working on that option as well.

The idea of Gunfight's random gun load-out is so attractive because it makes it so that players never know what to expect. The fact that they can't heal already gives the game mode a flare of tension that other modes might lack. Add on top of that the fact that players are given random, unfamiliar guns to fight with, and the game mode becomes that much more hectic. There are no overpowered load-outs to fall back on, and since both teams are using the same random load-outs, meta and chance (ironically) are thrown out the window, leaving nothing left but skill. So, whichever team is the better shot, or the faster to adapt, will prevail.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of changes Infinity Ward brings to Gunfight, as dmickner didn't give any exact details. Modern Warfare just released an update, but the dev has plans to release another one soon, so fans hopefully won't have to wait long to find out about Gunfight.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
